This week’s collection covers words for watery worlds.

From the Greek word huetos, hyetal describes things that are related to rainfall.

Lacustrine comes to us from the Italian lacustre, and ultimately from Latin lacus, meaning “lake”.

You may recognize the root of potamic in the word hippopotamus, the creature described by Herodotus as a “river horse”. Potamic describes things that are river-dwelling or river-related.
